The secret to having a stress free, productive day is largely about starting off effectively.  A productive day starts the night before. If you get your day going in the right way from the outset the likelihood is that your day will carry on in this way.

The best way to set yourself up for an effortlessly productive morning is to set it up to be as easy as possible for yourself.

Not only does this make your morning feel stress free and relaxed, but it also conserves your brain power for tackling the important tasks and big decisions of the day.

The way the brain works is that after it’s rested it has the most amount of power.  This power gradually depletes throughout the day.

This is why it’s always best to tackle your most important and most challenging tasks of the day in the morning when you have the most amount of energy and why you should save your less demanding tasks for the afternoon when your energy levels will be lower.

As you go through the day even the seemingly mundane decisions that we make all use an element of brain power and using these resources can actually deplete some of our precious brain power before we even get started on our day, by making decisions such as what to wear or what to have for breakfast.

Here’s what you can do the night before to prepare yourself to get through your morning effortlessly and without wasting vital brain power before you get to work.

Decide what you’re going to wear.

Take the outfit out of your wardrobe and hang it up ready to wear tomorrow.  Make sure it’s clean, ironed and ready to put on straight away in the morning

Decide what you’re going to have for breakfast.

This may seem like a trivial decision, but all of this counts.  If there is anything you can prepare the night before, for example, chopping up fruit ready to put in to the blender for a smoothie then do it.

Decide what you will have for lunch.

If you make your own lunch then prepare it the night before rather than rushing round in the morning.

Prepare your bag.

Do you have everything ready that you need to take with you? Make sure that you have not just everything that you need for your working day, but also anything else that you may be using, for example if you’re going to the gym after work have you got your gym bag prepared, or that bottle of wine that you’re taking to your friend’s when you go round for dinner?

Get an early night.

This one may be obvious and something we all know, but still it’s often something that we neglect to do.  Having a good 8 hours sleep will help us function so much better the next day so get to bed early ready to get super productive the next day.

Preparing the night before will make your morning so much more effortless.  You’ll find you’ll work through your morning routine so much more quickly and smoothly than usual.  You may even find that you have some time to spare which you can use to sit and focus on your main priorities for the day ahead.  If you give yourself time to focus on this before you actually start tackling your tasks you’ll find that you are setting purpose for your day which will enable you to better focus and power through the important things.

Give it a go and let me know in the comments how you get on.
